This weekend, there are a number of Michigan football injuries that have fans talking about what the 2023 season opener against ECU may bring for the Wolverines. While few are concerned about a loss right now, here are three injuries that could have an impact on this weekend’s game, including Rod Moore, Tyler Morris, and more.

Michigan football injuries that could impact the 2023 season opener East Carolina game

This weekend, for the first time this year, Michigan football will take the field and begin their 2023 season in pursuit of a national title. Tomorrow’s opponent is East Carolina, who doesn’t look like much on paper but could be an issue for the Wolverines seeing as Michigan has some injuries and suspensions to work through.

Rod Moore

The first Michigan football injuries that many people are talking about right now are to Rod Moore and Makari Paige — the top two safeties in the Big Ten conference. Moore, who is one of the top defensive backs in the nation and a cornerstone of the Wolverines’ defense, is questionable for this weekend’s game against East Carolina. Maybe he will play, maybe he won’t, but the veteran safety is definitely a player to watch tomorrow.

Even if he plays, not being 100% could impact the secondary. If he sits, Michigan football will be without an impact player on defense. Regardless, Rod Moore’s injury status could have an influence on the game’s final score.

Tyler Morris

Tyler Morris has been rumored to be one of JJ McCarthy’s favorite wide receivers right now; in fact, at the start of camp, Jim Harbaugh said that Morris was one of the Wolverines’ three starters. That said, a recent injury update has many unsure that he will play this weekend, and seeing as East Carolina has a poor passing defense, this means McCarthy will be without a top receiving threat.

Morris is questionable for tomorrow’s game, which may impact the offense depending on how the less-proven talent (such as an impressive freshman trio and more) can fill in.

Amorion Walker

Amorion Walker, a converted cornerback, was one of the top contenders for a starting job next to CB1 Will Johnson heading into the year. That said, a last-minute fall camp injury has left others, such as transfer Josh Wallace, to fill in with Walker banged up. Tomorrow, there is buzz that players like Will Johnson and Amorion Walker may both sit (as a precaution), so keep an eye on the cornerback depth.

The defensive backfield may not be at 100% tomorrow, but that is no reason for Michigan football fans to panic. At the end of the day, the Wolverines are deep all over the field, and the 2023 season opener against ECU could be a valuable learning curve for a number of rising stars.
