On Thursday, Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh took to the podium for the first time since spring practices started up. Harbaugh addressed a lot of things regarding his Michigan football program, including his stance on the NFL rumors and the league’s interest in his players and coaches. According to the head man himself, NFL interest in Michigan football is a good thing.

As many know by now, the NFL has been trying to poach Harbaugh from Michigan for years now; in fact, over the past two offseasons, the NFL has come quite close to doing so on a few occasions. Still, Harbaugh has remained in Ann Arbor, and will likely do so for some time. Additionally, the league consistently steals Michigan football players before they graduate, and takes countless coaches from Harbaugh’s staff.

Despite all of this, Jim Harbaugh claims that he thinks the NFL interest is a good thing for his program.

According to Harbaugh himself, the NFL constantly poking around Ann Arbor is great for his team and program. Here are Harbaugh’s full statements on the NFL:

“Like we said, I mean, it’s it’s an ongoing thing,” Harbaugh said. “Something that we treat as a really positive thing, that NFL franchises, NFL teams have a lot of interest in all of our personnel, coaches, players, staff. If somebody in our organization feels like that’s going to benefit them professionally and personally, then we say have that — we don’t hold anybody back. I think with the players, it’s got to be so many over the last eight years. It’s got to be in the 80s or 90s over eight years, players that are in the NFL.”

Harbaugh continued, “Coaches, I think I’ve lost count how many coaches have gone to the NFL from here. Staff members saying — right now Jesse Minter’s considering that. we just don’t hold them back. I could tell you all the ones that — I mean, calls come in. Calls come in, calls are taken, those conversations are had. There’s a few coaches on our staff that those calls came in and they decided to stay here. On one, there’s another. People do what they think is best for them professionally, personally.”

Harbaugh says he will stay in Ann Arbor as long as Michigan wants him to

After addressing the NFL rumors and interest, Jim Harbaugh was asked head on what the deal was with the Denver Broncos. It was then that he came out and said that he was still fully committed to Michigan football:

“I’m always — I’m here as long as Michigan wants me here. You would have had a story if I wasn’t, but I’m here. And this is where I’m going to be,” Harbaugh said.
