Over the weekend, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy had another solid game en route to a 45-7 victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Memorial Stadium — the Wolverines‘ first road game of the 2023 season. While McCarthy is one of the leaders in the current Heisman Trophy odds, he is still yet to play a full game; in fact, McCarthy has not touched the field for so much as a single snap during the fourth quarter of a game this year.

An interesting fact about Michigan football quarterback

Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy has been posting some impressive numbers so far this fall — 1,071 passing yards, 10 passing touchdowns, and three interceptions. McCarthy also has the best QBR in the country (94.2) and a stellar completion percentage of 79%. He has done all of this while only playing about 2.5-3 quarters per game through five games.

JJ McCarthy unbothered by lack of late-game reps

According to Jim Harbaugh, JJ McCarthy is not bothered one bit by his lack of late-game snaps.

“(JJ McCarthy) had one of his best games,” Jim Harbaugh said of his junior quarterback on Monday. “He’s just so efficient in how he plays the game and what he does for our offense; he really makes it go. But also, completely unselfish. You see, some quarterbacks aren’t. Four to six touchdowns a game, and he’s just so locked in on winning and being efficient for the team, and contributing to the team. It’s it’s a beautiful thing.”

Michigan football usually puts in a new QB somewhere in the middle of the third quarter, though all QBs but JJ McCarthy have snaps in the fourth quarter this year. This weekend, the Wolverines hope to continue this interesting trend by crushing Minnesota early on and throwing a new quarterback into the game by the time the fourth quarter rolls around.
