Michigan football travels down to Columbus this Saturday. For head coach Sherrone Moore, it’ll be the first time he’s at the head of the table for The Game. Michigan has won three straight games against the Buckeyes and hopes to send its fourth-year seniors off undefeated.

Moore spoke to the media on Monday afternoon and was asked about the emotions behind the rivalry.

“It’s fun. It’s everything you want it to be,” Moore said. “When you grow up as a kid, whether you want to be a coach or whether or you want to be a player, this is what you want to do. You want to be in these types of games. It’s awesome to be a part of. It’s a lot of work (because) it’s something you think about all year. It’s an exciting time for us to be in.”

Whether it’s in the Big House or the horseshoe, the atmosphere surrounding The Game is unique. Some players weren’t around two years ago when Michigan beat OSU on the road, so they won’t quite know what to expect. Moore said the staff will do everything it can to get the team ready.

“Crowd noise in practice, and doing those things, and I think our guys love those environments,” Moore said. “We’ll definitely increase the crowd noise, and you put it in the indoor (facility), it gets pretty loud. We’ll definitely have to weather the elements and create some noise and distractions outside too, to make sure we understand what the weather is going to be like.”

Old-school football usually shows its face in this rivalry. Amid a time in which football games are typically won through the air, these games seem to always come down to the running game. The last time Michigan visited OSU, Donovan Edwards ran for over 200 yards in the win. Moore said the running game decides who wins and loses.

“I think the biggest piece of this game – it’s the rushing battle,” Moore said. “The team that wins the rushing battle wins the game. I know they’ll be focused on the same thing so that’s got to be an emphasis for us to do.”
