INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The world of college football was turned on its side this decade with the introduction of NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness), allowing college student-athletes to profit from their own personal brand. In the modern era of the sport, having a healthy NIL infrastructure is crucial for recruiting and maintaining the game’s best players. According to head coach Jim Harbaugh, it appears that the Michigan football NIL efforts have been nothing short of impressive.

Jim Harbaugh comments on Michigan football NIL efforts during Big Ten Media Day

Recently, during the Wolverines’ segment of Big Ten Media Day, which took place in Indianapolis, IN, last Thursday, Jim Harbaugh was asked about a number of pressing Michigan football topics. One of the more critical topics that Harbaugh was asked about is NIL and how Michigan football is handling it thus far. According to the Wolverines’ 9th-year head coach, everything is going quite well.

“I think it’s coming along,” Jim Harbaugh said of the Michigan football NIL efforts, per 247 Sports. “I mean, it’s so new. You know, it’s a new thing, and I think it’s coming along. We just love to see what they’re doing. Love how they’re attacking it. And just deserve a pat on the back as well. They’re doing a great job.”

This is fantastic NIL news for Michigan football. If the program is to continue competing for Big Ten and national titles in the future, NIL is one of the most essential building blocks that the program must build upon. So far, Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines have proven to be more than able to adapt to the times, using the transfer portal and NIL to their advantage quite often. This is yet another sign that the Maize and Blue are doing well both on and off of the football field.
