This weekend, Michigan football hits the road for the first time this fall for an away game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Quarterback JJ McCarthy, who has been playing quite well so far this fall, has a major goal in mind for the Wolverines’ first away game — he wants to make Memorial Stadium “quiet as a mouse.”
JJ McCarthy looking to silence Nebraska fans this weekend
Yesterday, just a few days after JJ McCarthy torched Rutgers en route to a 31-7 win, the Wolverines’ junior quarterback met with the media. There, McCarthy explained that he is looking to lead Michigan football to a victory in Lincoln this weekend, and wants to silence the Nebraska fan base while doing so.
“I’m not gonna lie to you, road games are probably my favorite,” Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy stated. “I love the Big House, and it’s an amazing atmosphere, but there’s something about going into someone else’s building and hearing all the boos and feeling all the hate, like, it just — I’m getting chills right now. It just brings a different spark and ignites a different fire inside of us.
“And, you know, there’s nothing better than going into a stadium that’s jumping and going crazy, and then by halftime, it’s as quiet as a mouse. So that’s what we’re going to try to do this weekend, but, you know, tremendous respect for Nebraska and their defense. Coach Tony White has done a great job. They’re very well coached, and I just can’t wait for it because it’s going to be a great test for us.”

Michigan is currently an 18-point favorite against the Cornhuskers, who are coming off of a solid victory last weekend and have a 2-2 overall record.
So far this fall, JJ McCarthy has completed 80% of his passes for 915 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions heading into Week 5 against Nebraska. Additionally, his QBR of 91.3 is the 3rd-best rating in the nation right now, and he has the 10th-best odds of claiming the 2023 Heisman Trophy(+3500).
