The Michigan Wolverines are not a one sport school, unlike a certain member of the Big Ten.

For the second straight year, Michigan athletics is dominating the Ohio State Buckeyes in all major sports. Unlike a certain Big Ten school, the fans of the University of Michigan do not have to stop watching after football season ends.

Wolverines dominate Ohio State in football

All Michigan fans know by now that the Wolverines have done well against Ohio State over the past two seasons. In 2021, despite losing eight-straight matchups heading into the game, Michigan football turned the tide of the rivalry.

No. 2 Ohio State came into Ann Arbor to face the 5th-ranked Michigan football team and left with a memorable beating. The Wolverines dominated Ohio State and ran up the score to 42-27.

The win was sweet for Michigan athletics fans, though it got even better when the Wolverines topped their 2021 performance a season ago. Michigan football headed to No. 2 Ohio State in 2022; despite the Bucks being favored by more than a touchdown, JJ McCarthy and the Wolverines gave OSU their most embarrassing loss in decades.

Michigan’s 45-23 victory in Columbus is indicative of how far Michigan has come under Jim Harbaugh and could be a sign of things to come moving forward. Since Ohio State’s last Big Ten title victory, Michigan football has won two-straight and has overtaken OSU as the team to beat in the Big Ten.

Michigan athletics remains dominant in other major sports

One of the best parts about Michigan athletics is that the Wolverines are, for the most part, dominant across every sport. That has been evident against the Buckeyes over the past two seasons, and Michigan athletics has been beating Ohio State across all major sports.

Basketball

Over the past two seasons, we have arguably seen the worst two teams of Juwan Howard’s tenure. Still, Michigan basketball has a winning record (2-1) against the Buckeyes and took the most recent matchup by a score of 77-69. Michigan’s most recent Big Ten title came in 2021; Ohio State has not won the conference since 2012.

Ice hockey

Michigan hockey has been incredible over the last two years, and its 5-2 record against the Buckeyes shows it. In fact, one of the Wolverines’ two losses came at a point in the 2021-22 season when Michigan was down all of its top players — somehow, the Wolverines still managed to split that series in Columbus.

The two will meet again next weekend; the Wolverines won their most recent matchup 4-2 at Yost Ice Arena. Michigan’s most recent Big Ten Championship came last season, when the Wolverines knocked off Minnesota to hang another banner. Ohio State has won no conference titles this decade, its last Big Ten Championship came in 2018-19.

Baseball

Michigan athletics has one of the best college baseball programs north of the Mason-Dixon line, and that is evident with its 4-2 record against Ohio State over the past two seasons. The Wolverines and Buckeyes have met six times — three times in 2021 and another three games in 2022 — over the past two seasons, and of course, Michigan athletics leads that series.

The two will meet again in mid-May for their final series of the season — the series will be held in Columbus. Michigan’s most recent Big Ten title came a season ago (2022), while the Buckeyes remain title-less this decade. Ohio State’s most recent conference crown came in 2019.
