Michigan women’s basketball beat Penn State 78-68 in Ann Arbor Saturday. The Wolverines celebrated senior day with a pregame ceremony for fourth-year seniors Greta Kampschroeder and Jordan Hobbs.

Hobbs spent her entire career in the maize and blue, and Kampschroeder transferred from Oregon State after her freshman season.

Senior day ends in victory for Michigan basketball

Michigan (19-8, 10-6 Big Ten) made seven 3’s Saturday, four of which came in the first quarter, as Hobbs and fellow guard Syla Swords each notched two. The Wolverines never trailed, but Penn State kept it within ten points for most of the first half. Swords finished with a game-high 24 points.

Over the final two quarters, Michigan rarely led by less than double-digits. Hobbs finished with 18 points, including 12 in the second half. She said she didn’t let the sentimental aspect of senior day set in because she wanted to focus on the game.

“I feel like they haven’t really hit yet,” Hobbs said after the game of her emotions regarding senior day. “… When I was walking out with my family I definitely got a little teary-eyed, and I told my parents they can’t say anything to me yet because my mom started telling me she was proud of me and I was like nope, not yet.”

Kampschroeder had a team-high seven rebounds to go with ten points and three assists. She recollected her memories of senior day as an underclassman.

“Previous senior nights, it’s emotional because those are the people you kind of look up to,” Kampschroeder said. “For example, Maddie Nolan or Emily Kiser, those were kind of my girls my sophomore year that I looked up to for advice, especially being new to this team.

“Hopefully we kind of had that same effect on some of the younger girls.”
