Yesterday, news of an NCAA investigation into Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines for sign-stealing shocked the CFB world. With a lot of questions surrounding the Maize and Blue right now, college football pundit Heather Dinich recently broke down how these allegations and the league’s response could impact a potential Michigan football national title run.

Michigan football national title hopes may be impacted by investigation

According to Heather Dinich, who is one of the top college football analysts in the nation right now, the College Football Playoff committee is willing to rank Michigan football so long as the Wolverines are bowl-eligible. This is going to be something to keep a close eye on as the NCAA investigation pushes onward, as it will largely decide whether or not a national title run is in the cards for Michigan this fall.

“If they are bowl eligible, the CFP (committee) told me this morning, Michigan is also eligible to be ranked by the College Football Playoff selection committee,” Dinich explained on ESPN this morning. “That’s in the NCAA’s hand — if they are not bowl eligible this year, they cannot be ranked by the CFP. But, as proven, they’re already under investigation for the 2020 recruiting violations, and they would be ranked with that in the backdrop. But if they’re not eligible for the bowl season, they’re not eligible for the CFP.”

Wolverines must rally, be prepared for a possible national title run despite NCAA investigation

As the NCAA continues its dive into Michigan football and these allegations of sign stealing, the Wolverines will continue to close out their remaining five games. Tomorrow, Michigan faces the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing before getting a much-needed bye weekend in Week 9.

With a lot of positive and negative buzz surrounding Michigan football right now, keep a close eye on how the NCAA responds to these allegations and whether or not Michigan will be eligible for the College Football Playoff and national title game this season.
