After a solid 31-7 win over Rutgers, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy and his Wolverines are now immersed in preparation for Nebraska this weekend. While McCarthy managed to bounce back from a three-interception game the weekend before, he is once again on the decline in this year’s Heisman Trophy odds — after making his way as high as top 4, the junior QB is now at the very bottom of the top 10.

Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy falls in Heisman odds once again

Last weekend’s win over Rutgers saw a solid performance from JJ McCarthy — it was a game that head coach Jim Harbaugh was quite fond of, while McCarthy himself thinks there is a lot of work to be done. Regardless, the second-year starting Michigan football quarterback has fallen once again in the Heisman Trophy odds, now coming in at No. 10 nationally (+3500).

Right now, JJ McCarthy has a QBR of 91.3, the 3rd-highest in the country. He has completed 71 of his 89 passes (nearly 80% completion) for 915 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions through four games.

After McCarthy’s poor performance against Bowling Green over a week ago, he dropped to 7th nationally; despite a solid game against Rutgers — going 15/21 (71.4% completion) for 214 yards and a touchdown — the Wolverines’ QB moved down another three spots.

It’s worth noting that McCarthy also ran the ball well against Rutgers, carrying the rock seven times for over 50 yards on a number of option plays and more. I would say it’s also worth pointing out that, despite consistently dropping in this year’s Heisman Trophy odds, the Michigan football star remains the top Big Ten player in the current odds.

This weekend, JJ McCarthy and his Wolverines hit the road for the first time this year to face Nebraska (2-2, 0-1 Big Ten) in Lincoln, NE, on Saturday.
