Today, the newest Big Ten football QB rankings were released, and who came in at No. 1 on the list? None other than Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy, who is heading into his third season with the Wolverines this fall. Joining McCarthy in the top-5 is former Maize and Blue starting quarterback Cade McNamara, who landed at the No. 5 spot after transferring to Iowa following the 2022 season.

JJ McCarthy is a quarterback with some of the biggest expectations in the sport right now. He has the talent, the frame, and has already proven himself on the field, leading his team to a 13-1 Big Ten title campaign last season. Now, with first-round draft projections, Heisman talks, national title odds, and more on the line, McCarthy has been pinned as the Big Ten’s top quarterback following spring ball.

The Wolverines are facing a season full of lofty expectations following their impressive 2022 campaign, which ended up being the winningest season in program history (13-1) including a Big Ten title win and a top-3 finish. For Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy, much of Michigan’s 2023 success will live and die with the production that Michigan gets from under center. If he wants to live up to the hype and be a first-round pick, his consistency issues from last fall will need to be fixed.

According to the newest Big Ten football QB rankings, released by USA Today, no one in the conference has a better quarterback than the Michigan Wolverines. Additionally, the Wolverines are early favorites against Ohio State and are currently ranked as the No. 2 team in the nation in the most recent post-spring rankings.

Everything appears to be going well for Michigan football right now. Jim Harbaugh’s newest challenge will be maintaining his team’s top-ranked status and breaking through the glass ceiling once more to bring Michigan a national title for the first time since 1997.
