Today, Michigan football RB Blake Corum, a senior superstar for the Wolverines, addressed the media shortly after he was officially named a captain of this year’s team. Among other things, the standout running back outlined how he has been getting ready for the 2023 season; more specifically, how he is prepping for Week 1 against East Carolina.

Michigan football running back prepped and ready for Week 1

Michigan football RB Blake Corum is coming off an injury, though he says that he is feeling better than ever. While he is not back to contact in practice yet, he is confident and ready to hit the field against East Carolina in nine days.

“I’m just going into the game ready,” running back Blake Corum said. “Whatever they need from me, whatever they’re going to let me do, I’m ready. If that’s 30 carries, I’m ready for it. If they limit me to maybe 10 or whatever, I don’t care. I’m just excited to be back out there. I’m ready to play some ball. It’s been a long time coming. I’m really just excited for (September) 2nd. I don’t care. I don’t know how the games will be played out; no one knows. ECU is a good team, so I’m ready.”

More on Blake Corum injury leading up to the 2023 season

Here is more on Blake Corum and his progress with his knee injury leading up to the 2023 season. We also covered this injury update progress in-depth earlier this afternoon.

“Just because I haven’t been hitting much doesn’t mean I haven’t been cutting. I’ve been cutting. My cutting ability is looking real sharp, right where it should be. And I know that the objective is not to get hit. Hopefully, we can carry that into ECU. Maybe I won’t get hit next Saturday, maybe I can make them miss or something. I’ve hit a little bit, but like I said, I’m back. I’ve been cutting, I can plant, I don’t even think about it. Someone asked me, ‘Hey, how’s your bad knee?’ It’s not a bad knee; this thing is good. This is a good knee.”

A fresh start against East Carolina

After missing three of the biggest Michigan football games last year (Ohio State, Big Ten title game, College Football Playoff), Blake Corum is eager to hit the field in the winged helmet once again this fall. That said, he is remaining where his feet are for the time being.

“… There’s nothing like game day. But we’re not there yet, so I’ve been watching a lot of film on ECU. As I said, they’re a great team, and I have to continue watching film on them. But like I said, camp has been going well, and going into game week, we’ll be ready. But me personally, I’m excited to be back out.”
