In just a few short months, Michigan football will be heading into the second year of the JJ McCarthy era. For the Wolverines, this is the first time since 2018-19 that the Maize and Blue will have a returning quarterback. In 2020, Joe Milton got the nod, followed by Cade McNamara in 2021, and now McCarthy in the most recent season, who has been ranked as one of the best quarterbacks in all of college football.

Not only does Michigan football have an experienced quarterback returning in 2023, but the Wolverines also boast one of the best in the nation. JJ McCarthy, a former five-star recruit, has been ranked among the top 10 quarterbacks nationally by ESPN heading into the upcoming fall season.

During McCarthy’s first year as the Wolverines’ starting quarterback, Michigan football achieved a flawless 12-0 regular season, with resounding victories over Michigan State, Penn State, and Ohio State, all ending in 20+ point leads for the Maize and Blue. Additionally, the Wolverines dominated the Purdue Boilermakers in the Big Ten title game, securing another triumph by a margin of three touchdowns.

Although Michigan football fell short in the College Football Playoff semi-final against TCU, it is evident that they possess one of the most talented quarterbacks in the nation, especially as McCarthy enters his third year of college football. According to ESPN, JJ McCarthy ranks as the No. 8 QB in the country heading into the 2023 season.
