Juwan Howard and the Michigan Wolverines’ basketball recruiting efforts are starting to pick up across the board. Earlier this month, the Maize and Blue added a new major target to their radar in the 2025 recruiting cycle: Koa Peat, a top-ranked 5-star recruit out of Gilbert, AZ.

According to every major recruiting service, Koa Peat is one of the top prospects in the 2025 recruiting class. He is rated as a 5-star recruit by all services, ranking among the nation’s top 5 players. According to the ON3 recruiting rankings, Koa Peat is a 5-star power forward, ranked as the No. 4 recruit in the nation, the No. 2 power forward in the 2025 class, and the No. 1 player in the state of Arizona.

Reports indicate that the Michigan Wolverines’ basketball recruiting efforts have been focused on this elite 2025 recruit, and Juwan Howard has already made contact. Koa Peat is one of the best players in the nation regardless of the recruiting class, bringing a large and physical 6-foot-7, 200+ pound frame to the table despite being among the younger players.

Michigan basketball has been solid on the recruiting trail since Juwan Howard took over as head coach for the 2019-2020 season. While the 2025 class is still quite young, it’s clear that Juwan Howard and his staff are hard at work, planting positive early seeds in hopes of making the 2025 class one of the nation’s elite. If the Maize and Blue want to contend for the Big Ten and national titles as they have in years past, landing prospects of Peat’s caliber is of utmost importance.
