Yesterday, a new major NIL partnership was announced for a rising Michigan Wolverines basketball star. Tarris Reed Jr., a massive center for the Maize and Blue who is about to become a top player on Juwan Howard’s squad, has signed a new deal with The Jalen Rose Leadership Academy — it was set up by the Champions Circle Collective, the official partner of Michigan Athletics.

Major NIL movement for top Michigan Wolverines basketball star

Perhaps no player will be more important for Juwan Howard’s 4th Michigan basketball team than Tarris Reed Jr., a massive center, who will be taking over for former starter Hunter Dickinson. On Monday, Reed officially inked a new NIL partnership with The Jalen Rose Leadership Academy in hopes of impacting young students and empowering them to reach their goals.

“The Jalen Rose Leadership Academy, founded by University of Michigan legend and Detroit native Jalen Rose, is known for its commitment to providing a quality education that prepares high school students for success in college or post-secondary pursuits and beyond,” read Monday’s official press release. “The academy’s emphasis on respect, determination, and excellence aligns seamlessly with Tarris Reed Jr.’s own values and aspirations.

“Together, Tarris Reed Jr. and JRLA will spearhead various initiatives, including a mentorship program, motivational speaking engagements, and community outreach activities. By sharing his personal experiences, struggles, and triumphs, Tarris hopes to instill in students the belief that they, too, can overcome challenges and achieve greatness. Additionally, Tarris will lead a fundraising campaign for JRLA to coincide with the 2023-24 basketball season by being the initial donor and utilizing his relationships and notoriety to encourage others to support JRLA.”

Tarris Reed Jr. thrilled with new NIL move

As a part of Monday’s NIL partnership announcement, Michigan Wolverines basketball star Tarris Reed Jr. had a chance to comment on his new deal.

“I’m incredibly thrilled to collaborate with Champions Circle and the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy, contributing to the development of this mentorship initiative,” Reed said. “This partnership allows me to use my name, image, and likeness to positively impact the lives of younger students, granting them the tools they deserve to flourish.

“Having grown up with stories of the Fab 5, I’m honored to take on this role, understanding the significance of being a mentor and eagerly anticipating the journey of growth alongside the remarkable students at JRLA to use NIL as a force for good.”

Once again, it is clear that Michigan Athletics and the Champions Circle Collective are pushing the university (and its programs) in the right direction through meaningful NIL deals and more.
