With the 2023 season just a week and a half away and Jim Harbaugh suspended for three games, the Michigan Wolverines football program needs an interim head coach for its non-conference slate this year. Right now, it appears that the Maize and Blue have a clear-cut choice to lead them through Harbaugh’s suspension: offensive play-caller Sherrone Moore.
Michigan Wolverines football needs an interim head coach for the 2023 season
Sherrone Moore is the perfect candidate to be the interim head coach of the Michigan Wolverines football team, with Jim Harbaugh suspended for a trio of games. Few people command the respect that Moore does within Schembechler Hall, and it is already widely believed that Moore will soon be a Division 1 head coach — perhaps as early as the 2024 season.
Now that it is official, Jim Harbaugh will be suspended for the first games of the 2023 season; Michigan football needs to make a call on who will step up. The 2023 season is a mere 11 days out, so this decision is incredibly time-sensitive, though, with Sherrone Moore on staff, it appears to be an easy call to make.
Sherrone Moore is the perfect replacement with Jim Harbaugh suspended
Sherrone Moore is currently serving as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the Wolverines and has been with the program since 2018. For the first three years of his time in Ann Arbor, he served as the Wolverine’s tight ends coach — since then, he has steadily climbed the ranks, earning the title of full-time offensive play-caller during the 2023 offseason when Matt Weiss was fired.
As I mentioned, Moore is one of the most respected faces in the Wolverines’ locker room, and his diverse coaching background (including time at Lousiville, Central Michigan, and many years with Michigan Wolverines football) makes him the perfect candidate to serve as Michigan’s interim head coach for the first three games of the 2023 season.
This is a big decision for the program to make, but that does not mean it needs to be a hard one.
