Over the past 100 years of Michigan Wolverines football, UM fans have witnessed six national titles, numerous Big Ten titles, a few Heisman Trophy winners, countless top 10 finishes, and more. On Tuesday, 247 Sports released their top 25 programs of the last century — here is where the Wolverines rank among the top 25 teams of the last 100 years.

Where is Michigan among the top 25 teams of the last 100 years?

On 247’s list, the Michigan Wolverines’ football program ranks No. 4 overall and No. 2 among Big Ten teams. Here is what 247 Sports had to say about Michigan football:

“The Wolverines have more wins than any program in college football history, but aren’t quite the winningest in terms of overall percentage.” Brad Crawford of 247 Sports wrote. “Michigan’s most successful run came under Bo Schembechler, who led the Wolverines to 13 conference championships from 1969-89. Fellow College Football Hall of Famer Lloyd Carr won five Big Ten titles in Ann Arbor and tasted a national championship in 1997. The Wolverines won 11 games or more only three times since and after Carr’s departure following the 2007 season, finished inside the top 10 of the final AP Poll only once. However, that changed two years ago under Jim Harbaugh, who has now won consecutive Big Ten titles with multiple playoff appearances.”

Michigan football boasts a Kelly Ford rating of 84.7.

Teams ahead of the Michigan Wolverines

There are three teams ahead of the Wolverines on 247’s list — one of which resides in the Big Ten. Ohio State is (somehow) ranked at No. 1, with Alabama and Notre Dame close behind. The Michigan Wolverines sit at No. 4 in the rankings, ahead of teams like USC (5), Oklahoma (6), Texas (7), and more.

Other Big Ten teams in the top 25

As I said, Ohio State comes in at No. 1, and Michigan comes in at No. 4 on this list. The next two Big Ten teams listed are tied for 12th place: the Penn State Nittany Lions and Nebraska Cornhuskers. Michigan State came in at No. 18, with the Wisconsin Badgers close behind at No. 19. The final two Big Ten programs listed are the Iowa Hawkeyes (23) and the Purdue Boilermakers (25).
