ANN ARBOR, MI — The Michigan Wolverines are starting to wrap up spring practices as all eyes now shift to the spring game on April 1st at the Big House in Ann Arbor. With spring ball slowly coming to a close, the Michigan football team is starting to get an idea of who will step up during the coming 2023 college football season — among Michigan’s rising stars is Derrick Moore, a former four-star edge rusher from Baltimore, MD.

Sophomore edge rusher emerging as a spring standout for Michigan football

The Michigan football team is starting to see Derrick Moore emerge as a breakout player during spring ball. Moore was a member of Michigan’s highly touted 2022 recruiting class — which ranked No. 9 in 247’s composite rankings — and ranked as the No. 49 player in his class, the No. 8 edge rusher, and the No. 2 player in Maryland for the cycle according to 247 Sports.

Moore boasts an impressive 6-foot-3, 280 pound frame, and thus far during the Michigan football spring ball practices, he has stood out among the crowd. During his freshman season in the Maize and Blue, the freshman edge rusher appeared in all 14 of Michigan’s games, making eight total tackles, two tackles for loss, and one pass deflection.

According to some fellow Michigan football defensive lineman, Derrick Moore has been impressive thus far in spring ball. “Derrick just keeps getting better each and every day. He’s gonna be a problem. Derrick’s doing well,” said sophomore edge rusher Jaylen Harrell.

With key edge rushers from the 2022 leaving — such as senior Mike Morris — more will be expected of Moore this year, and the sophomore rising star is ready to meet the challenge of the coming Michigan football season.
