The Wolverines’ season opener is this weekend! In just four days, the Maize and Blue will run out and touch the banner, officially starting the team’s hunt for a national title for the first time in nearly three decades. Ahead of the season opener, head coach Jim Harbaugh (9th year) had some high praise for a new Michigan football transfer who continues to battle it out for a starting role heading into the season — offensive tackle Myles Hinton is a player to watch.

Major praise for new Michigan football transfer

Myles Hinton, the younger brother of ex-Michigan defensive lineman Chris Hinton, is a massive human being. From offensive linemen to defensive linemen, even the coaching staff, this point has been reiterated time and time again throughout fall camp. Per the team website, Hinton is listed as a massive 6-foot-6 and 340 pounds heading into his first season in Ann Arbor.

While he is undeniably huge, Hinton has also been making some great strides heading into the season opener this weekend. Per Jim Harbaugh, Hinton has been standing out and “coming on like gangbusters.”

“Myles Hinton has come on like gangbusters,” Jim Harbaugh said yesterday. “There have been days where he looks like the best. The whole week, he’s looking like the best. And Trente (Jones) and LD (LaDarius Henderson) both have been … (they are) so athletic in the way they move.”

Nothing set in stone for Jim Harbaugh, Myles Hinton

While Hinton and others have been standing out, the battle is far from over.

“Now you’ve gotta see it in the games,” he continued. “We’ll see who plays the best in the ball games. That’s the ‘Michigan Method.’ Who gets to start? The best players. How do you know who the best players are? They play the best.”

It remains uncertain who will start at right and left tackle this weekend, though against ECU and throughout the non-conference schedule, it is expected that Myles Hinton will get his chance to earn the starting job during his first season with Michigan football.
