The 2023 offseason has been riddled with non-football-related storylines for the Maize and Blue. Over the summer, perhaps nothing was more blown up than the NCAA’s massive push for the four-game suspension of Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh over what has become known as ‘Burgergate.’ Just now, Yahoo Sports reported that sources say Jim Harbaugh is expected to coach the entire 2023 season and that the NCAA has backed off for the time being.

Michigan football, Jim Harbaugh no longer expected to face NCAA suspension

A few weeks ago, it was reported that Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh was expected to be suspended for four games of the 2023 college football season. This would encompass matchups against East Carolina, Bowling Green, UNLV, and Rutgers.

That said, new reports state that Michigan football and its head coach, Jim Harbaugh, hit a few snags with the NCAA in this investigation, which now voids this talk of a suspension at the moment. Per these reports, Harbaugh’s case is now centered around the Level 2 violations (instead of the suspension-caliber Level 1 violation that was being pursued), with the entire investigation hitting a road bump. Now, it is expected that this matter could bleed sometime into 2024, with no quick resolution in sight for the time being.

While the investigations into all of this are still ongoing, it sounds like none of it will impact the coming Michigan football season, and Jim Harbaugh remains free to coach all 12 of the Wolverines’ regular season games this fall.

Harbaugh’s case is expected to go to the NCAA committee of infractions, likely sometime next year.
