Every July, Big Ten Media Day serves as the beginning of the runway to Michigan football season.
While players will ultimately answer the most questions at this event, the focus is on each head coach’s first press conference of the season with over 100 reporters participating.
For some coaches, it’s their first chance to sell their fan base on accomplishing their goals.
For others, like DeShaun Foster, it’s an opportunity to remind you where the school is located.
Of course, Sherrone Moore had his chance to speak about taking over as head coach of the Wolverines in 2024.
Here are Moore’s five best quotes from Big Ten Media Day.

5. “Coach was his own man; I’m my own man. We’ll do it that way.”
When asked about how he’ll recruit in comparison to former head coach Jim Harbaugh’s unorthodox methods, Moore addressed an elephant in the room. In my opinion, there’s no better way to approach this for the first-year head coach. Not only is Jim Harbaugh impossible to replicate, but Moore himself has unique traits that I’m excited to see pan out long-term. After all, he’s only 38 and already has as many wins in the rivalry as Ryan Day.
Clearly, Moore is different than a certain other successor to a championship program. He wasn’t born on third; he witnessed the program bunt for singles, swing for doubles, and run for triples.
4. “The players are maintaining the culture.”
These days, college football is changing everything we once knew about the sport. Still, head coaches are the faces of their programs more than players. I get it, players are temporary and coaches (can be) forever in college. But ultimately, it’s up to the players to buy in and then perform.
With the nation doubting Michigan’s encore to its 15-0 season, Moore reminds us all of the importance of culture and how his group isn’t losing a step:
“Really, the players are maintaining the culture and the brotherhood that we have. To watch them every single day is what’s kept us where we are today.”
3. “The players are all the support we need.”
When a reporter asked Moore about the strong support he receives from his players, he made it clear that relationships are his No. 1 priority. Everyone knew he would be the guy when Jim went to Los Angeles, but can he still get the same fire out of these players that his predecessor did?
It sure seems like that question is already answered.
2. “We’re always going to be about The Team, The Team, The Team.”
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Coach Moore was aksed about the old quotes that Harbaugh would often use. He said that his will come gradually, but the old saying will always be in the program: “The Team, The Team, The Team.”
1. “They realized what we have to do and how we have to compete.”
What is there for a fan base to complain about after a 15-0 season? NIL money, of course!
Michigan fans grilled the University’s efforts toward using NIL opportunities as leverage in recruiting.
“They’ve (NIL collectives) done an outstanding job. They realized what we have to do and how we have to compete. It’s part of the game, you have to have a plan and we continue to be aligned as an administration and collective to get there.”
If you haven’t heard, Michigan football recruiting is heating up and it all adds up now.
Buckle up, it seems the journey into NIL has only just begun for the Wolverines.
