Michigan football worked to address the size of its pass catchers last cycle, and it’s doing the same this offseason. EJ Holland of On3 reported Monday that 2026 four-star WR Travis Johnson plans to officially visit Ann Arbor on June 13. Johnson stands at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, and plays his prep ball at Oscar Smith High (Chesapeake, VA).
Michigan football to host four-star WR Travis Johnson for official visit
Johnson is ranked as the third-best player coming out of Virginia, as well as the No. 21 WR and No. 141 overall recruit in the country, per On3’s industry ranking. ESPN has him ranked as the No. 84 player in the nation and 12th best WR in the class.
As a junior in 2024, Johnson tallied 1,044 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. Upon reviewing his highlights, he’s more than just a tall receiver. Johnson seems to be a solid route runner, and he knows how to position himself for a contested catch. The ability to catch in traffic is a sign of a pass catcher with a high ceiling.
Earlier this month, Johnson told Holland ($) that Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy is, “like family”, and he spoke highly of the staff after he visited Ann Arbor before the dead period.
“I have a really good relationship with Coach (Sherrone) Moore,” Johnson said. “I told him happy birthday the other day. He’s a good dude and a good coach. He came to my school with Coach (Chip) Lindsey and the GM (Sean Magee). I definitely felt like a top priority. We always have genuine conversations.”
Johnson also appears to have enough speed to surprise people given his size. Simply put, he has the potential to be a game-changer at the next level. If Michigan can land Johnson, he could be an impact player as a freshman in 2026.
