On Sunday night, the biggest sporting event in the United States took place in Glendale, Arizona. The Super Bowl was more than just a night of fanfare and watch parties for three former Michigan Wolverines, who are all on the Chiefs’ roster, and were crowned champions by night’s end.
The three Wolverines who help the Kansas City Chiefs (AFC) take down the Philadelphia Eagles (NFC), 38-35, were Chad Henne (quarterback), Frank Clark (linebacker) and Mike Danna (defensive end). All three of these players represented different eras of Michigan Wolverines football.
Chad Henne played for four seasons (2004-07) under former head coach Lloyd Carr, and was almost needed when starter Patrick Mahomes went down with an injury in last night’s game. Frank Clark was a standout linebacker under former Michigan Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke, who was fired in 2014 after a 5-7 campaign that fall. Mike Danna was a transfer defensive lineman on Jim Harbaugh’s 2019 Michigan football team, which finished the season 9-3 before losing to Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide in the Citrus Bowl.
While some of these former Michigan Wolverines were more instrumental than others in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory, they will all receive rings by the start of next season. For now, the Wolverines’ long streak of NFL success, both in the draft and with players’ performance levels, is alive and well. This is a great talking point when recruiting some of the nation’s top talent.
