Sherrone Moore and Michigan football are cooking in the 2025 recruiting class after landing a third commitment in the past week following the pledge of three-star running back Jasper Parker.

Parker (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) is ranked 440th overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s out of Louisiana and is ranked as the No. 32 running back. He’s explosive and despite the mocking from Ohio State fans about Tony Alford landing a three-star recruit, the Wolverines got a good one.

Here are three reasons to like this commitment for Michigan football.

An impressive offer sheet

Rankings are important but the evaluations of the college football coaches are too. You can tell a lot about a recruit based on which programs offered him a scholarship.

Parker’s offer list is impressive. It includes Alabama, Miami, Oregon, Penn State, USC, Auburn, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Florida State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and others.

That tells you as much as the ranking does.

Explosive ability

A big part of recruiting is evaluating. You are trying to figure out what a 16-17 year old will become in a few years. What they have done in high school doesn’t matter that much.

Look back at Kris Jenkins. He was 240 pounds when he committed to Michigan football. People rolled their eyes and said “another 3-star” and that dude just got picked in the second round of the NFL draft.

I’m not saying Parker will follow that development path. But just because he’s ranked as a three-star recruit doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a bright future. Just watch the highlights. The kid can play. He’s decisive and he’s a home-run hitter, not unlike Donovan Edwards.

 The momentum keeps building

Beyond the fact that Parker is a great culture fit — he talked about the value of a Michigan degree — and committed while eating a steak dinner with Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore, his commitment is the third of the week for the Wolverines.

Parker is the eighth pledge of the 2025 class. He’s not a four-star recruit like the other commitments, at least right now, but I think he’s got a great chance to improve his ranking. Look at the offer sheet and the highlights and you’ll see a four-star recruit.

The potential is there for this kid to be a starter down the road and the fact that Ohio State fans are trying to ridicule Michigan about it shows how desperate they are to have something to cheer about.
