The Maize and Blue lost a number of notable transfers over the 2023 offseason — perhaps the top three names to leave the program were Erick All (captain, tight end), Cade McNamara (captain, quarterback), and Andrel Anthony (wide receiver). At the mid-way point in the 2023 season, all three ex-Wolverines were balling out; in fact, Anthony was one of the top wideouts in the entire Big 12 last week. That said, the Michigan football transfer loss turned Oklahoma football star will not play for the rest of the year due to an injury.
3rd Michigan football transfer loss to miss season with injury
The transfer portal gives, and the transfer portal takes away. For the Wolverines, that was exactly the case leading up to this season — Michigan football gained some valuable starting assets via the portal, though also lost a few captains and potential breakout stars.
One such Michigan football transfer loss was wide receiver Andrel Anthony, who had the talent and frame to play well in the Big Ten, though was without a true breakout year for the Wolverines. This was perhaps in part due to Sherrone Moore’s offensive scheme, which did not really fit Anthony’s skill set.
That said, his new home with Oklahoma football was treating him quite well, as he was one of the top wideouts in the Big 12 through six games and led his team in receiving yards until a knee injury last weekend.
Oklahoma football coach announced Andrel Anthony injury following Texas game
This week, Oklahoma coach Brent Venables — who is in his second season with the Sooners and has them playing fantastic football right now — announced some saddening news. The ex-Wolverine wide receiver will miss the remainder of his first season in Oklahoma due to a knee injury.
“You hate it for Andrel and how hard he’s worker,” Venables said. “… All of his best football is in front of him. He’ll have a great career on the back end of this surgery.”
For the time being, all we know is that the former Michigan football wideout will miss the rest of this season. Ideally, we will get our hands on an injury timeline and more information in the near future.
