Orchard Lake St. Mary's guard Trey McKenney goes to the basket against Birmingham Brother Rice during the second half of MHSAA Division 1 quarterfinal at Calihan Hall in Detroit on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

Michigan men’s basketball is one step away from landing one of the top prospects in the Class of 2025. Less than a week after his official visit to Ann Arbor, senior combo guard Trey McKenney announced USC, Georgetown and the Wolverines as his top three choices.

McKenney said in an interview with Stock Risers that he’s done taking visits. He had an official visit to Georgetown set for early December, but instead, McKenney plans on making his decision before the year is over.

Michigan appears to be in a great spot.

“Oh, I feel like (Dusty May) is building a pretty good program, and his players are buying in, and it’s the hometown school, so that’s a good feeling,” McKenney said.

According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Michigan has nearly a 30 percent chance to grab the Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (MI) phenom. Georgetown has the next highest chance with a 16.6 percent probability.

McKenney is the top-rated player in Michigan on almost every major recruiting website, and across the board he’s ranked as a top 30 player in the country.

McKenney is a 6-foot-4, 225-pound scoring machine with a high motor. His size and quickness is a lethal combination in the backcourt, and it makes him a problem on both ends of the floor. Entering his senior year, McKenney is coming off a state championship in a season in which he averaged a double-double with over 20 points and 10 rebounds per game.
