Michigan OL Gave ‘Best Effort’ of Season Against MSU

The Michigan football offense looked like it had a breath of fresh air against Michigan State, and it was largely because of the offensive line. The Wolverines allowed zero sacks for the first time this season. The offense also managed to finish the game turnover-free, which could also be attributed to better protection up front.

Michigan offensive line coach Grant Newsome said it was the best the group has performed all season.

“It was definitely our best effort,” the assistant coach said. “Any time you have no sacks, no penalties, no turnovers, you feel good about it in that respect. Still stuff to improve on.”

How Michigan’s OL Stacks Up Against Oregon

The No. 1 ranked Ducks come into Ann Arbor next. Oregon is 12th in the country in total defense and average less than 300 yards allowed per game. Oregon defensive end Jordan Burch has five sacks and seven tackles for loss in five games. Burch missed the last three games with an injury, but he’s questionable to suit up against the maize and blue. 

The Ducks also have one of the best pass rushing defensive tackles in the country in Derrick Harmon. Newsome said the Michigan offensive line is chomping at the bit. 

“Obviously, an elite player,” Newsome said of Burch. “A dynamic pass rusher, strong, all the attributes you look for with a good edge type player.”

“It’s across their defensive line. Harmon, who we’ve obviously seen before at Michigan State, is playing really, really good football as well. We’re gonna respect them, but we’re excited to go meet the challenge.”
