Michigan men’s basketball moved up several spots from No. 20 to No. 12 in Monday’s AP poll. The Wolverines went 2-0 last week, including wins over No. 7 (now No. 13) Purdue and Ohio State, respectively. They’re on a six-game winning streak with six games left in the regular season.

The Wolverines evened the season series against Purdue with a 75-73 win. Michigan’s bench outscored the Boilermakers 21-0, including 14 from Roddy Gayle Jr. Purdue also lost its next game against No. 16 (now No. 11) Wisconsin.

On Sunday Michigan went down to Columbus to beat the Buckeyes 86-83. It was a return for former Ohio State guard Gayle Jr., who posted nine points and eight rebounds off the bench. Michigan had a clear advantage in the front-court, as it won the rebounding battle 46-31.

Michigan turned the ball over 11 times against Purdue, and 12 times against the Buckeyes. Given their average of 14.4 giveaways per game, it was a positive sign for the Wolverines.

No. 14 Michigan State awaits on Friday, and it’s 2-3 in the last five games. The Wolverines could extend their Big Ten lead to over two full games by the time next week’s rankings come out.
