No. 11 Michigan ice hockey is heading to Columbus for a back-to-back set against Ohio State this week. The first matchup is Thursday (Feb. 27) at 8 p.m. and the second is Friday (Feb. 28) at 6 p.m.
Michigan (17-12-3, 11-9-2 Big Ten) sits in fourth place in the Big Ten, one spot behind the Buckeyes (20-10-2, 13-8-1 Big Ten). The rivals met early in January and split the two-game set, with the Wolverines taking the second game 3-2 in overtime.
Michigan ice hockey to end regular season at Ohio State
On Feb. 14-15, Michigan swept then-No. 4 Minnesota. The first contest ended with a game-winning goal in overtime from defenseman Ethan Edwards (3-2). Game two went into overtime tied 2-2, but that wasn’t enough to settle it. Michigan went on to win 1-0 in a shootout.
The Big Ten tournament begins on March 7. The seeds still have to shake out, but the Wolverines could host a few tournament games. The quarter finals are a best-of-three format, and the semi-finals and finals are single elimination, with the higher seed hosting.
If the Wolverines are able to sweep Ohio State, it would be four straight wins. The last time Michigan won more than two games in a row, it went on a seven-game win streak from Oct. 25 to Nov. 23.
