Michigan men’s basketball fell from No. 12 to No. 15 in the Associated Press’ updated top 25 Monday. The Wolverines hosted then-No. 14 Michigan State on Friday for a battle for first place in the Big Ten, but the visiting rivals left with a 75-62 win. It snapped a six-game winning streak for the maize and blue.

Michigan was stymied in the second half against the Spartans, scoring just 24 points and giving up 41. MSU freshman guard Jase Richardson had 21 points (7-of-12 field goals), six rebounds, three steals and zero turnovers. Off the bench, junior guard Tre Holloman gave the Spartans 18 points, including hitting 3-of-4 from behind the arc.

Michigan center Vladislav Goldin tied Richardson for a game-high 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Nimari Burnett (12 points, 5-for-8) was the only other Wolverine to shoot over 50 percent on field goal attempts. Not to be overlooked, forward Danny Wolf contributed 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

On the road

The Wolverines have to win out if they want to win the Big Ten, and it starts Monday night (Feb. 24) on the road against Nebraska. The Cornhuskers are tied with Indiana for ninth in the conference, but they have recent wins over then-No. 18 Illinois and then-No. 16 Oregon. With that being said, Nebraska is 1-2 in its last three games and is coming off a loss to Penn State, who sits a half-game away from last place.
