Michigan women’s lacrosse saw their season come to a disappointing close in round two of the NCAA tournament. After a decisive 17-6 win over Akron in the first round, the Wolverines fell to the number three-seeded regional host Northwestern, 15-7.

Despite their NCAA tournament loss in the second round, Michigan had a fairly successful season overall, ending with a winning record of 13-7. The regular season saw some impressive wins by the Wolverines, including a 14-7 win over No. 21 Ohio State in Columbus, and wins over ranked opponents Penn, USC, and Johns Hopkins.

The Seniors Ended Their Careers on a High Note Despite Loss to Northwestern

Senior goalkeeper Erin O’Grady made 11 saves against the Wildcats, marking her 12th game with double-digit saves on the season. Senior attacker Jill Smith also closed out her career with a bang, with her 11th hat trick of the season completing a 36-game point and goal streak, and attacker Kaylee Dyer had two assists to become the third Wolverine in program history to surpass 200 career points, ending her career with 201.

With O’Grady, Dyer, Smith, and key midfielder Julia Schwabe all graduating this year, there’s no doubt head coach Hannah Nielsen is losing some of her most essential players. However, returning next season will be midfielders Emma Burke and Emma Bradbury, as well as attacker Calli Norris, all of whom have proven themselves to be sizable assets to the Wolverines’ roster.

The Wolverines certainly had a season to be proud of in 2025, with a bright future and high hopes for the start of the 2026 season come next winter.
