During Week 12 of the 2022 college football season, fans of the Michigan Wolverines were devastated to witness the injury of their star running back, Blake Corum, during their game against the Illinois Fighting Illini. Despite this setback, the team managed to narrowly defeat Illinois with a score of 19-17, followed by impressive victories against Ohio State (45-23) and Purdue (43-22) in the Big Ten title game.
As the 2023 season approaches, there is great excitement surrounding Corum’s recovery from his knee injury and the potential for him to once again lead the Wolverines to victory.

Before his injury, Blake Corum was a top contender for the Heisman Trophy throughout the course of the 2022 season. Despite missing three of the Wolverines’ most important games, he still managed to accumulate nearly 1,500 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns, as well as impressive receiving statistics.
In Corum’s absence, Donovan Edwards stepped up and helped the Wolverines secure several important wins. However, many members of the team believe that Michigan could have potentially secured a national title if Corum had not been injured, including Edwards himself.
Recently, Blake Corum provided a few updates regarding his injury as the team prepares for the 2023 season — fans are eagerly anticipating his return and the potential for the Maize and Blue to continue their winning ways, this time gunning for the 2024 national title.
“When I say recovery is going great, it’s going great,” Blake Corum stated, according to The 33rd Team. “My knee is feeling stronger than ever, I’m feeling stronger than ever. The other day, I started cutting for the first time. I’m getting my cuts back, I’m going to be making a lot of people miss this year. Within these next couple weeks, I hope to be anywhere from 90 to 100 percent, and back to the regular BC.”
Could a national title game berth be in the cards for the Maize and Blue for the first time in program history?
It is common knowledge that Blake Corum, the esteemed running back of the Michigan Wolverines, eagerly looks forward to reuniting with his team on the field. Corum has made a bold proclamation, vowing to secure a national championship in 2023-24, and his unwavering belief in this goal is palpable.
During the spring months, Corum persevered through individual rehabilitation and worked out with other injured teammates. As the team enjoys a well-deserved break, they will soon gear up for an exciting 2023 season.
“We don’t start team workouts until next Friday, so I can’t wait,” Corum explained. “I cannot wait until next Friday, because I’m really just like full-go. I don’t have to be hesitant like, ‘I can do this, I can’t do that. I’m watching my teammates do a conditioning test, I can’t do a conditioning test.’ I’m back. I’m really in it now, so I cannot wait for summer workouts.
“I’m going to be doing everything the guys are doing — squatting to lifting to doing individual drills. I feel like I’m back to myself, and I’m as happy as can be, man. When I was cutting the other day, it didn’t look as good as I wanted it to, but I feel it. It feels good to be able to do a little bit.
“I’m really excited for these team workouts. Throughout this month, I’ve been working with the trainers at the facility, and I’ve gotten a lot stronger throughout this month off. But I’ll tell you, when this team work starts, oh it’s on. I’m going to have all the guys ready, and we’re going to be ready for September.”
