Another Michigan football player gets a chance to join Jim Harbaugh

Jim Harbaugh loves Michigan football. He also loves Michigan football players or would appear to as a fourth has now agreed to join the Los Angeles Chargers for a minicamp.

German Green, a defensive back and special teams player for the Wolverines, is taking part in the Chargers rookie minicamp which is a chance for players to earn a spot on the 90-man roster. That’s according to Clayton Sayfie of The Wolverine.

Another Michigan Wolverine could be joining Jim Harbaugh

For guys like Green, who weren’t drafted or signed as a rookie free agent, this is the next step. You have to show out during a minicamp and then if you get signed, you are part of the 90-man squad that will be taken to training camp.

Green played in 42 games during his Michigan football career. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound defensive back is the brother of Gemon Green, who declared for the draft in 2023 but went undrafted. He signed with the Giants as a rookie free agent but didn’t make the roster.

However, Gemon Green signed with the Packers in April. He should have a fighting chance to make their team or at least the practice squad and German Green could too in LA.

Knowing the defense run by the Chargers should help but if Green is going to make Jim Harbaugh’s team, it will have to be through special teams.

German Green is the fourth Michigan football player to wind up with the Chargers. LA drafted Junior Colson in the third round and Cornelius Johnson in the seventh. The Chargers also signed Karsen Barnhart as a rookie free agent after the draft.
