Auburn ‘pretty close’ to flipping Michigan football commitment

Auburn is trying to flip Michigan football commitment Nate Marshall and it seems like the Tigers made clear progress this weekend.

It’s never a good sign when commitments start visiting other programs. That’s why Michigan football fans had to get a bad feeling when it was reported that Nate Marshall, the top-ranked commitment for the Wolverines in the 2025 class, was taking an official visit to Auburn.

Marshall committed to Michigan football back in April. That was after his visit for the spring game. The 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive lineman is ranked fourth at his position and No. 41 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Marshall was the first commitment for Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines have to hold onto him.

However, it’s not going to be easy. Auburn is in the mix. So is Miami. There has been talk of a visit to Miami but it hasn’t happened yet and after his visit this weekend to Auburn, Marshall told Jeffrey Lee of Auburn Live “It’s Michigan or Auburn.” He also said it was “pretty close.”

For Michigan, that’s less than ideal. Marshall was 100 percent committed not long ago. Now, this recruitment feels like a 50/50 deal. The Wolverines have work to do at the very least but they need to flip the momentum back in their direction.

If not, it feels like a flip could happen. It wouldn’t be the end of the world, but it would be a blow. There’s no pretending that it wouldn’t be and the reaction from the fanbase will be justified frustration for a program that has gone 40-3 the past three seasons and is fresh off a national championship.
