Last night, Illinois came into Crisler Center and downed the Wolverines, dropping Juwan Howard & Co. to 7-11 overall and 2-5 in Big Ten play this season. Not long before, Michigan basketball recruiting received some bad news as well, with elite four-star point guard Jeremiah Fears (AZ) canceling his upcoming visit.

Michigan basketball recruiting likely to miss on another major target

In the coming days, Juwan Howard and his Michigan basketball program were expected to host a top-ranked point guard in the class of 2025: Jeremiah Fears, the No. 35 recruit in the country. While Fears was once considering the Maize and Blue, it sounds like the Wolverines are officially out of the running.

Per On3, the four-star point guard has canceled his upcoming recruiting visit and will not be rescheduling it — this news comes as Michigan basketball continues to struggle, boasting a poor 4-11 record over its past 15 games. In fact, the program has seemingly been on the decline since winning an outright Big Ten Championship back in 2021.

While Michigan basketball remains one of Fears’ five finalists, it appears that this is going to be another major miss for Juwan Howard and his Wolverines on the recruiting trail. Per the Industry Recruiting Rankings, Jeremiah Fears is a four-star point guard who ranks as the No. 35 player nationally, the No. 6 point guard in his class, and the No. 2 player in the state of Arizona.
