Players scrum at midfield following Saturday’s NCAA Division I football game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines.

All things considered, Michigan football pulled off an upset for the ages on Saturday. Unfortunately, the game itself might not be what people remember the most. A Michigan player was waving a flag near midfield following the final whistle when OSU staff and players charged. Chaos ensued.

Big Ten Fines Michigan and Ohio State

The Big Ten released a statement on Sunday in which it announced it would fine both universities $100,000 for their involvement. Read the full statement below:

“The Big Ten Conference has determined that the actions of both teams following the Michigan-Ohio State football game on Saturday, November 30, 2024, violated the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy. Not only did the actions of both teams violate fundamental elements of sportsmanship such as respect and civility, the nature of the incident also jeopardized the safety of participants and bystanders.

As a result of these violations, the Big Ten Conference has issued an institutional fine to both the University of Michigan and The Ohio State University in the amount of $100,000 each.

The Big Ten Conference considers this matter concluded and will have no further comment.”

Ohio State senior DE Jack Sawyer was one of the main instigators as he was visibly upset by Michigan celebrating on his home turf (again).

A melee broke out at midfield, and players on both teams were maced. It took several minutes for the situation to quell.
