Michigan football added its 16th commitment of the 2025 recruiting class on Saturday and it’s from three-star wideout Phillip Wright who chose the Wolverines over Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, and others.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound wideout is ranked No. 541 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Out of Destrehan, Louisiana Wright is ranked as the 86th-best receiver in the 2025 class, but he has some exciting elements to his game, especially his 10.46 speed in the 100-meter dash.
That’s incredibly fast and Wright is described as a big-play wide receiver. The blue-chip ratio might have dropped slightly but with Georgia and LSU sniffing around late — and the Tigers maybe pushing still until signing day — this was a solid win for the Wolverines.
Thoughts on the commitment of Phillip Wright to Michigan football
I love Wright as a prospect. I’m not worried at all about his ranking and I think the renewed interest from LSU shows the kind of potential he has. Jasper Parker, another recruit from Louisiana, just got upgraded in the rankings from a three-star recruit to a four-star. It does happen.
One thing I love about Wright, outside of his speed, is his ability to make things happen after the catch. He’s also a return guy and could help the Wolverines right away in that regard, but he reminds me a lot of Semaj Morgan.
Wright is effective on deep balls but also on screen passes and simple end-arounds. Once he gets to the edge, he often creates a big play and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if his ranking bumped up in the end.
Wright is the 16th commitment overall in the 2025 class and the 12th total since the start of June. 13 of those are blue-chip commitments but just like Parker when he committed, Wright doesn’t look like a three-star.
