Today, it was reported that the Michigan football program is under NCAA investigation once again. Despite all of the Jim Harbaugh noise and more over the past few months, there is still no real resolution in sight; on top of that, the NCAA is now investigating the Wolverines for alleged sign stealing.

Michigan football program under NCAA investigation

According to new reports from Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, Michigan football is once again in hot water with the NCAA. According to his report, which surfaced on Thursday afternoon, the Wolverines are facing allegations of sign stealing.

Additionally, Yahoo reports that two of Michigan’s opponents this fall claim that the Wolverines knew their signs — stealing these signs is not illegal so long as electronic devices are not involved in the poaching of the signs and relaying the information to the players and coaches.

Right now, the allegations against Michigan football pertain to whether or not the Wolverines used unnamed personnel to attend and scout future opponents in an attempt to gather their signs and use them in-game down the road. The Big Ten Conference confirmed that the NCAA will be launching an investigation.

Sources claim that the NCAA is investigating Michigan football for a violation that pertains to the following: NCAA Bylaw 11.6.1 — “Off-campus, in-person scouring of future opponents (in the same season) is prohibited.”

This is now two open investigations against Michigan football. This weekend, the 2nd-ranked Wolverines will face the 2-4 Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing before getting a Week 9 bye. With a lot of momentum on Michigan’s side right now, this investigation news could not have come at a worse time.
