College GameDay is set to return to Ann Arbor in Week 2.
The ESPN crew will be on hand for No. 9 Michigan football vs No. 4 Texas. The top-ten matchup is one of just two games next week – along with Tennessee at NC State – that will feature teams ranked in the preseason AP Top 25.
The College GameDay crew will not be the only national show in Ann Arbor. The game is set to air on FOX at noon ET as part of Big Noon Kickoff. ESPN has generally avoided going to the same site as their rival network.
It appears, however, that they were unwilling to pass on the opportunity to feature two programs coming off of a College Football Playoff appearance. Additionally, Michigan and Texas are two of the biggest programs in college football and bring plenty of national attention.
College GameDay roster features a new familiar addition
The College GameDay crew has always had plenty of star power. Former Michigan Wolverines wide receiver and returner Desmond Howard has a Heisman Trophy and Super Bowl MVP to his name. Former NFL punter Pat McAfee has become one of the biggest names in sports media. Rece Davis, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit – who played quarterback at Ohio State – are three of the most respected voices in college football.
Their cumulative star power, however, does not compete with Nick Saban. The former Alabama Crimson Tide coach joined the College GameDay crew after retiring from coaching in the offseason. His visit to Ann Arbor will likely be filled with reminders that the Wolverines sent him home in last year’s Rose Bowl. The game, which sent Michigan to the national title, marked the final coaching appearance of his career.
