On Saturday, senior Michigan football running back Kalel Mullings — who was formerly a linebacker, yet was moved to RB full-time this year — scored an impressive touchdown run during the Wolverines’ victory over Nebraska. On Monday, offensive line star and team captain Zak Zinter gave more insight into Mullings and his role within Michigan’s stacked running back room, which includes the likes of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, two of the top backs in the country.

Kalel Mullings was a linebacker for Michigan football when he first began his college playing days; however, after seeing a split role in 2022, his talents were moved to RB full-time ahead of the 2023 season. Now, even as RB3 for Michigan (behind Edwards and Corum), Mullings has found himself an important role in Sherrone Moore’s offense.

“I think we’re gonna start seeing more and more and more of him (Kalel Mullings,” team captain Zak Zinter said on Monday. “He’s a big back, he runs hard, and, you know, it’s hard to bring him down. When he gets in there, he’s running with a purpose which is really cool to see. I mean, I played against him in high school. So I mean, it’s been pretty cool to see him. We were winning at halftime in high school, he came out and beat my team, and they went to the championship. So I’ve seen what he can do in high school, and I’m glad to see it starting to translate over, and he’s getting more reps now in college.”

So far this fall, through five games, Kalel Mullings has gotten 15 carries for an impressive 100 total rushing yards and one touchdown. His touchdown against Nebraska was his first this fall and his fourth since being moved into the Michigan football running back room last year.
