On Wednesday, three days into Michigan football’s spring practices, On3 sports released their top 10 running backs list ahead of the 2023 season. On their list are two Michigan Wolverines, Donovan Edwards and Blake Corum, who come into this season with massive expectations after a head-turning performance in 2022.
Corum and Edwards are top 10 running backs in college football
The Corum-Edwards duo is the best RB duo in all of college football — with two equal but opposite skillsets, these two are as close to unstoppable as you can find. A season ago, when Heisman contender Blake Corum went down with a knee injury, backup sophomore Donovan Edwards (who had a broken thumb at the time) came in and rushed for over 200 yards against the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes in Michigan’s 45-23 victory.
The following weekend, during the Wolverines’ 21-point Big Ten Championship win over Purdue, Edwards was again the Michigan starter, and impressed once more. In Michigan’s title win, Edwards ran for 185 yards and multiple scores, earning himself Player of the Game honors.
Now, turning the page the page to 2023, these two will be coming for even bigger and better things than a year ago — Michigan’s 13-1 season was great, but the 2023 Wolverines have an even higher ceiling.
Corum ranked No. 1 back in college football
According to On3 (and just about everyone else) Blake Corum is the best running back in college football this season. Corum’s shiftiness and speed make him a threat in open space, and his grittiness makes him impossible to bring down at the line of scrimmage. After falling just short of being a Heisman finalist and National Champion in 2022, Corum claims that the Wolverines will win it all this year, and God have mercy on anyone who stands in his way.
Edwards ranked No. 8
As a rising junior, Donovan Edwards has a dangerous combination for any running back to possess. He is big, fast, strong, and one of the Wolverines’ best receivers — he can do it all, and frankly, he does do it all. When Corum comes out, the defense’s job doesn’t get any easier, as Edwards subs in. These two are a dangerous duo, and without a doubt, they’re both top 10 running backs as individuals.
