The 2023 Michigan football team has been garnering plenty of preseason hype. The Wolverines hold a top-5 preseason ranking and boast multiple 2024 NFL Draft prospects. The preseason hype continues to build for the Maize and Blue as four Michigan football stars made the preseason watchlist for the Outland Trophy earlier today.

Michigan football has developed a strong reputation for producing elite-level talent in the trenches. On both offense and defense, the Wolverines have veteran talent returning for 2023 who are expected to have huge seasons.

Four of these players were recently listed on the 2023 preseason Outland Trophy watch list released by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). The Outland Trophy is given to the best interior lineman in the country. Here are the Wolverine contenders for the award.

  • Kris Jenkins — Senior — Defensive End
  • Trevor Keegan — Graduate Student — Offensive Line
  • Drake Nugent — Graduate Student — Offensive Line
  • Zak Zinter — Senior — Offensive Line

Senior defender Kris Jenkins stands alone as the only defensive player listed for the Wolverines. Jenkins is entering his third season as a starter and has high expectations for himself and the team.

In addition to Jenkins, three interior offensive linemen were selected from the Wolverines. The Michigan football offensive line is coming off of back-to-back Joe Moore Award-winning years and has no signs of slowing down in 2023.

The preseason watch list for the Outland Trophy shows that Michigan football has a well-rounded group of talent on both the offensive and defensive line who could make a huge impact on the upcoming season.
