Michigan football has serious depth concerns in its wide receiver room, and the coaching staff is trying to solve the problem through the transfer portal.

Later this month, the Wolverines will host four-star wide receiver Donovan McCulley from the transfer portal. The Indiana wide receiver was a quarterback as a true freshman before making the switch in 2022. McCulley is expected to be in Ann Arbor for the game against Michigan State on Oct. 26.

What to Know About Donovan McCulley

At 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds, McCulley would give the Michigan receiving room an immediate upgrade in the size department. McCulley was an honorable mention for All-Big Ten last season, as he recorded 48 catches for 644 yards and six touchdowns. He also added a touchdown on the ground.

McCulley redshirted early in October and entered the portal as a graduate transfer last week.

Why the Former Indiana WR Moved from Quarterback to Wide Receiver

Even though McCulley was a quarterback coming out of high school, his scouting report from 247Sports highlights some of the reasons he was able to move to wide out.

“Tall, bigger-framed prospect. Very good athlete who can run and make plays with his feet. Throws well on the move and shows the ability to throw from every angle and does not have to be set to generate velocity. Above-average arm strength and can throw with touch. Has to keep working on getting set and getting rid of the ball quickly consistently. Although he was forced to scramble more based on protection. Could potentially play another position but has good upside as a quarterback. If the talent gets polished, he can start at a high-major level and have a chance to play beyond college.”
