After winning the Big Ten East Championship, downing Ohio State and Penn State along the way, for the third year in a row, the Maize and Blue are finally off to the Big Ten title game against Iowa (10-2, 7-2 Big Ten) this weekend. After suffering a leg injury against No. 9 Penn State a few weeks ago, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy had a rough couple of weeks; however, ahead of this weekend’s matchup, he has some fantastic news.

Michigan football quarterback updates leg injury after Ohio State

If Michigan football (12-0, 9-0 Big Ten) is to contend for the national title this season, JJ McCarthy needs to be near perfect for the remainder of the season. While he was not asked to do too much against No. 2 Ohio State last weekend, McCarthy still made some incredible plays, leading the Wolverines to their third win in a row over the Buckeyes and sending Jim Harbaugh’s ninth Michigan squad to Indy to play for the Big Ten title on Saturday.

Heading into the Ohio State game, McCarthy’s lingering leg injury — suffered during Michigan’s 24-15 win over No. 9 Penn State earlier this month — had become an area of concern. In fact, during the Wolverines’ 11th win of the season (and 1,000th win in program history), JJ McCarthy was clearly hindered by whatever was going on with his leg.

JJ McCarthy should be full-go in the Big Ten title game

While the Maryland game was nothing to behold, the issues with McCarthy’s leg seemed to vanish against Ohio State during Michigan’s 30-24 victory two days ago. In fact, on Monday, the junior Michigan football quarterback gave another outstanding update on where things stand in regard to his leg heading into the Big Ten title game on Saturday.

“My lower leg injury is almost perfectly healed,” JJ McCarthy explained. “I mean, it was a rough couple of weeks, but the athletic training staff did a tremendous job. I attacked treatment every single day. So it’s doing good.”

All signs point to a third straight Michigan football conference title win

Sherrone Moore said all of the same earlier in the day during his Monday press conference with Jim Harbaugh. Moore explained that JJ’s injury was healed, pointing to a run that McCarthy had against Ohio State as evidence that it is not holing him back anymore.

So, this weekend, as the Maize and Blue looks to capture its third consecutive Big Ten title for the first time since the early 1990s, it sounds like Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy will be full-go against a stingy Iowa Hawkeye defense.
