ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Jim Harbaugh sure knows how to get people talking about Michigan football, whether that be by winning games on the field or dropping quotes in his press conferences. This afternoon, we heard from Harbaugh yet again after a win, yet this victory Monday had a different vibe inside of Schembechler Hall — seeing as the Big Ten Conference has suspended Harbaugh, he was not on the sideline for his team’s win over No. 10 Penn State last weekend. Regardless, Harbaugh’s latest opinion on his Wolverines, calling them “America’s team,” has people abuzz on social media and more.

Social media is buzzing about Michigan football after Penn State win

If you have opened Twitter or Facebook today, there is a good chance that you saw Jim Harbaugh call Michigan football “America’s team” on Monday afternoon. Seeing as people are convinced that the Wolverines are “cheaters,” it comes as no surprise that this has rival fans and more pretty upset, especially after Michigan beat a top-10 team on the road by two scores.

“I felt so good about that just watching (the Penn State game) from where I was watching. I was like, ‘How can you not see this?’ These players — Blake Corum with the nose bloodied and the emotion of the team, the perseverance, and then just the stalwartness of these guys.”

What did Jim Harbaugh say that has everyone so upset?

But what exactly did Jim Harbaugh say that has people so upset about Michigan football after the Penn State win? Below is his quote, calling the No. 3 Wolverines “America’s team” heading into the Maryland game.

“I mean, yeah, watching, I would have to say it’s got to be America’s team. It’s got to be America’s team. America loves a team that beats the odds, beats the adversity, overcomes the naysayers and critics, (the) so-called experts I think is my favorite kind of team. Watching it from that view on the television, finally, people get to see what I see every day (from) these players and these coaches.”

Regardless, Michigan could make program history this weekend — with or without Jim Harbaugh coaching

The critics will continue to rant, and rival fans will continue to punch down on Michigan football. Regardless, Jim Harbaugh and his Wolverines have a goal in mind: win each week until the national title is sitting in Schmbechler Hall in the center of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

This weekend, Michigan could take one step closer to achieving this goal and check a major program box along the way when the Wolverines face Maryland (6-4, 3-4 Big Ten) on the road. A win would improve Michigan’s season record to 11-0 heading into the Ohio State game, as well as give Michigan football its 1,000th all-time victory.
