Help is on the Way: Michigan Lands 2025 5-Star OT Andrew Babalola

The future of the offensive line looks much brighter

Michigan offensive line coach Grant Newsome talks to Blue Team players during the second half of the spring game at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

Considering the way this season has started, Michigan football fans needed some positive news. Their wish was granted on Monday as 247Sports announced 5-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola will suit up in Ann Arbor next fall. Babalola comes in as the best player in Kansas and one of the top tackles in the country. Babalola joins 4-star Avery Gach as the only offensive tackles set to come to Michigan out of the 2025 class.

Why did Babalola choose Michigan?

Michigan has struggled to protect the quarterback this season, though part of it has been due to injuries. Babalola is the type of player that could be an anchor on the edge of the Michigan offensive line for years to come.

Babalola said it simply made sense for him to choose the maize and blue.

“For Michigan, it was just the right fit in the end,” Babalola said. “Overall, it had a family feel and I was blessed to have a bunch of great options and schools to choose from, but with Michigan, it came down to the family feel and knowing I would be taken care of with academics off the field and then on the field, the development. That all made me comfortable knowing Michigan was the place for me.”

Babalola chose Michigan over Stanford, Oklahoma, Missouri and Auburn. Babalola said head coach Sherrone Moore and offensive line coach Grant Newsome were integral to his commitment.

“The thing about them was overall was their personalities and how much they love Michigan,” Babalola said. “They are Michigan men through and through. They’ve obviously had a tough season and there’s been a lot of criticism, but I believe in them and I believe in their plan and vision for Michigan. I wouldn’t have committed if I didn’t believe in them and they didn’t believe in me.”
