Last week it was reported that Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice would be leaving for the same position with the Detroit Lions. Choice coached Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs at Georgia Tech and had been with the Longhorns since 2021. With his departure, it not only left a gap in Texas’ staff, but it could create a gap in the race for a top recruit.

What Michigan football could gain from Texas RB coach leaving for NFL

Michigan and Texas were thought to be at the top of the list for 2026 four-star running back Javian Osborne. Choice leaving for the NFL could put the Wolverines right where they want to be in the pecking order. Osborne, the nation’s No. 6 running back (per On3), seemed to enjoy his time in Ann Arbor early last November.

“It was great,” Osborne said. “Being able to talk to Coach (Sherrone) Moore, Coach TA (Tony Alford) and Coach JB Brown was awesome. They really made the University of Michigan feel great. From the football to the campus to how they showed me how I can be utilized, I’m learning something new every time I go up there. From the run game to special teams, I’m always learning. Despite the loss, it was an awesome, great visit. It was fun.”

Osborne has another visit with Michigan scheduled for June 20.
