No. 24 Michigan football is in the midst of a bye week after losing its first road game against Washington on Saturday.

In a slow news week, the program met with the media and these are the most noteworthy quotes:

Moore Wants Improvement on the Defense

“I think they’ve done a good job of initially stopping the run on teams,” Moore said. “People have to do different things to get the ball moving on us, but the pass game, pass defense has to improve. And that’s a collective group thing. That’s not just Will, that’s not just the DBs, but it’s the pass rush. It’s all the things tied together to make sure that we’re aligned in the pass game. So we definitely have to improve there.”

Michigan is currently ranked 48th in the country in total defense, despite being an upper echelon team against the run.

Tuttle Will Be the Starting Quarterback Moving Forward

“Right now it looks like Jack,” Moore said. “We’ll do everything we can to keep the competition going, but I think right now he gives us the best chance to win, and we’ll continue to process that as an offense, as a team, but that looks like the direction we’re heading.”

Tuttle came into the game against Washington in the first half and led the Wolverines on three straight scoring drives.

Tuttle Takes Accountability for Turnovers

“It’s a blessing to (be) back out there and play for such a great University,” Tuttle said. “Obviously it wasn’t the outcome we wanted but we learned a lot. Personally, there were a couple of plays I wish I had back that could have won us the game – I take responsibility for my mistakes and I’m going to be better for it.”

Tuttle threw an interception and lost a fumble on Saturday.

Benny said the Wolverines Are Ready to Roll

“It’s a fresh start. It’s a whole new part of the season to where we’re just trying to get everybody back from injuries,” Benny said. “Anybody who body was banged up, we’re trying to get everybody back on board to where it’s a whole fresh, new start of the season, to where we just roll after this.”

Michigan has had multiple starters on both sides of the ball banged up all season, including star cornerback Will Johnson.
