Michigan football got its first and only win in the month of October last weekend over rival Michigan State. Although a repeat as national champions is off the table, the Wolverines are still in the hunt for a bowl game. On Saturday, Michigan will try to mount back-to-back wins as No. 1 Oregon comes into town.
During the week, the program met with the media and these were the most noteworthy quotes:
Michigan Football Quotes of the Week
Head coach Sherrone Moore on QB Production in MSU Game
“It was awesome. It was what you hoped it would be,” Moore said. “You wish it would start a little faster, but both of those guys work well in tandem together. You see that in practice, you see them walk around the building and that’s just how they are, and they really feed off each other. It was cool to watch that come to fruition and not just see it in practice, but see it in a game.”
Moore on Having Myles Hinton Back
“Having Myles back, he’s a tone setter, obviously – he’s a big human being with an immense skill set,” Moore said. “As a group, those guys played well together (with) synergy in pass pro. But that also comes with timing in the passing game. I thought the precision in the route timing was good. I thought Davis did a really good job when he was asked to do that – (he) missed a couple throws and he’s beating himself up over it, but (he) played good enough for us to win and made some really good throws.”
OL Greg Crippen Earns Starting Job
“I got hurt at the end of camp,” Crippen said. “There was competition at the time, but you know, I felt it kind of put me back a little bit. But feeling really healthy now. We’re just, as offensive line, we’re just going to keep rolling every day and keep getting better.”
OL Coach Grant Newsome on Offensive Scheme
“That’s always a balance,” Michigan offensive line coach Grant Newsome said. “You never want to get into a situation where — with anything — you have a big indicator or big tendency. It’s something we were conscious of last year, and something that (tight ends) Coach (Steve) Casula has done a better job than I did last year with (fullback / tight end) Max (Bredeson). Hey, every time Max is in the game, it can’t just be a direct fullback run, even though he’s obviously elite at it.”
Special Teams Coordinator J.B. Brown on Punter Tommy Doman
“Confidence is in him, really,” Brown said. “I think he works hard. He takes his craft very seriously at the end of the day. We have full faith in him as a program. Everyone on the team has faith in him. The way he works and prepares, there’s no reason why he won’t perform well.”
