Michigan football has a lot of talent heading into the 2024 season, just look at the Preseason Big Ten honors which featured three Wolverines (second most among Big Ten teams).

But there are questions too, namely at the quarterback position where Michigan football will need to replace arguably the best signal-caller the Wolverines have ever had in J.J. McCarthy.

To be clear, there is no replacing McCarthy. He was one of a kind. But the position still needs to produce. The offensive line should be stout and frankly, people are underestimating the running back duo of Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings.

That tandem will be elite, just like the entire Michigan football running game that will also feature Alex Orji — whether he is the starting quarterback or not — something Kirk Campbell said again on Tuesday at the Champions Circle Golf Event.

Jack Tuttle says Michigan QB room is “fantastic”

Michigan quarterback Jake Tuttle was also at the event and he addressed the quarterback competition. The former four-star recruit who has sat behind McCarthy and Michael Penix Jr.  is a dark horse to win the job. However, the experienced passer also said the Michigan QB room is “fantastic.”

“We have a fantastic quarterback room,” Tuttle said via The Wolverine. “I think people underrate us a little bit, but who cares? I think we’ll show it through our work this year. There’s the it factor that [Penix] had and J.J. had and continued confidence through any type of adversity.

“They didn’t really care what happened in the game whether it was a touchdown or a pick, it was pretty even keel throughout the whole thing. They’re both tough dudes and great leaders. It’s hard to explain the it factor. You either got it or you don’t and you’re pushing the ball down the field and you don’t care about anything the pressure going on around you.”

Tuttle has been making a push for the job this summer and he’ll be among the top contenders to be the Week 1 starter for the Wolverines against Fresno State.
